Pedro Trujillo Álvarez

Francisco Marroquín University of Guatemala

He was an officer in the Spanish Army (Lieutenant Colonel with a diploma in the General Staff) and currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations at UFM-Guatemala. He also hosts a TV talk show (A Solas) and co-hosts a news program on the same channel (Canal Antigua, Guatemala). He writes a weekly opinion column for the Guatemalan newspaper PRENSA LIBRE and another for the magazine www.republicagt.com.gt. He holds a PhD in Political Science (Madrid) and a Master’s degree in International Relations (Guatemala).
His preferred topics are related to national and international politics and security. His doctoral thesis was on the penetration of jihadist terrorism in Latin America. He teaches classes on Methodology for the Analysis of Contemporary Problems and on History and Geopolitics of the 20th Century. He has given lectures in different countries and written or collaborated on various academic works. He was president of the Guatemalan Chamber of Journalism (CGP) from 2012 to 2013 and 2013 to 2014, and director of the academic and research department of the Latin American and Caribbean Network for Democracy (REDLAT).
